not that it makes a difference, it’s a holiday here and i’m going into work. but i feel great anyway. the dreams, the dreams. my god.

that glow on the horizon in the northwest portion of trinidad is me smiling. i feel that good, by the time vic gets here in 28 days we may both need to have some kind of protective shielding.

i’m calling the embassy today, i think my general demeanour and good feeling will help me get through the beuracracy. need to get some kind of news.

speaking of which:

apple teases us with the new G5s

some recently issued patent gems

the new times 55 fiction winners (a complete story in 55 words)

pubic hair-dos (part 1 of 3 by near experts em & lo from nerve)

it’s about that time for me to get going. i’ll be back later.

DAYS TIL VICTORIA GETS HERE: 29

how bad is it when you’re borrowing money off your child? i’m about to find out, i’m going to grab a shower, see if there is anything edible in this kitchen, then head off to the office, first order of business, major diagnostics on the art dept machines, then upgrade to os x. i never realised how much i like os x til i have to use 9 on a daily basis and how flaky and counterproductive it is.

in other news, there was this hottie in the italian job. apparently he was also in confidence, but the thought of having to watch ed burns in another movie… well i’d rather have my eye put out with a dull stick… needless to say i’ll be giving it a miss.

underdog onlinecelebrating the underdog and the outsider in a healthily frivolous and assertive way

underdog also has a link to the very secret diaries of the LOTR characters (it’s been around a while, but i had forgotten how funny they were)

and not quite foodie porn – failed foods

i’m off to get something to eat and head off to the office, more later, i’m going to have lots of time on my hands today, while the computers do stuff.

i’m sitting here surrounded by machines. 2 TiPBs (Titanium Powerbooks for the uninitiated) and a spanking new ibook. sadly only one Ti PB is mine, the other i’m setting up for os x as well as the ibook. by virture of the longest use, i have become the de facto master of X. for want of better thrills, i’m sitting here surrounded by 4 monitors, two attached to my machine. i’ve found it easier to work this way one of palettes and extraneous windows and one for the actual work.
i should stop stroking my inner geek. although there is not much for me to do as the apps install and update.

i did find a couple of interesting links this evening:

the winners of the world stupidity awards

full lenght versions of all those samples from your favourite hip hop tracks

the simplified spelling society

and finally the encyclopedia of unusual sexual practices

“WHAT DO YOU GET IF YOU MULTIPLY SIX BY NINE”

that’s good. code keeps the site up to date. (apologies to all the ben hur fans)

thank you for the swift and effective update to the site, solving all my link problems.

i’m in a fairly good mood, late lunch and all. i’m in the process of carving my domain. not as bad as it sounds, just setting up the machines how i want them, organising the fonts, i’m thinking now is the time to make the switch to os x in the office as well. but that’s going to have to be done over the weekend.

i’m realising there will be fewer opportunities for mid day post and movie watching, everyone is pretty much accountable to me and all the goddamn meetings i could do without. how am i supposed to create?

nevermind, rhethorical question…

here is your afternoon moment of zen

need to get back to work, i just had to thank tiroteo for his amazing work on the site.

just an early morning post to test the music feature on JS.

i’m trying not to be exceptionally late for work, i have an interview to conduct. i don’t think i’m a bad manager particularly but i’ve never liked being interviewed and i think it shows, i come off as abupt. time to get going, i’ve got a long day ahead, the high point of which is vic’s return. i’ve missed her fiercely, but gladly i haven’t been all whiny, i feel positive and at the breakdown point i got some ink, which usually puts me in a zen like place. (i’ll explain later)

in other news vic’s ticket is booked for a july visit. i wont start counting down the days just yet, things have a habit of going pear shaped at the last minute. i’m saying prayers to all the divinities and keeping all my appendages crossed.

off to save the world, peace.

there was actually supposed to be a list yesterday but i got distracted with all of apple’s cool shit.

so i’ve installed itunes 4, reorganised my music library, checked out the store and lusted after the ipods. i’ve also been playing around with ijournal, it’s nice, i’m trying to figure out why i keep getting the error any suggestions welcome.

tomorrow is the big presentation, so i get to spend all of today spraying and mounting, joy, joy… who doesn’t love sticky hands. i still hate my job but i feel much more validated, i’m doing good work and if they can’t appreciate it, fuck it.

as you can probably tell, i’m pysching myself up for the disappointment, the end of the month is in two days and i haven’t heard from the other company, so i’m assuming the worst.

i owe, i owe, so it’s off to work i go, i owe, i owe, i owe.

1. poor service

trinidad is not know for it’s service industry, so why it continues to aggrevate me, is still a mystery to me. usually i can ignore the behaviour but today was just completely wrong. i sat in a fast food chain while an employee hung up on a customer, i was amazed and what was even more amazing was the manager’s reaction… he didn’t care, he seems more bothered that they were calling him to the phone. i don’t even know why i was amazed, this is trinidad

which brings me to…

2. lack of exemplars

so i’m in a taxi on my way into port of spain, and this car changes lanes without indicating, this is a common thing here, but what pissed me off about it was a fucking licensing officer (for those of you who don’t know the licensing office is the body responsible for issuing driver’s permits and general road saftey) so you see the irony in that particular maneuver.

rant over.

it’s hard to really rant when there is so much cool shit going on…

itunes 4, the new ipods and the itunes music service, i am in my glee. it’s great time to be a geek

day 18 (filler)

so i get into work today after my day off yesterday and the presentation and the work that was perfect less than 48 hours prior, is now riddle with changes.

change is not a big problem for me but fucking random ass changes like

“i don’t like the type face” and “there is too much space”

is the kind of shit that drives me around the bend, have these people no concept of design. what makes it worse there is no constructive critism with suggestions, fucking morons.

like i said earlier, if it wasn’t for the fucking money…

and the money ain’t that good.

moving on…
i found this really cool app for os x (yes, i’m a mac owner) called clutter which finds the cd cover for tracks you’re listening to in itunes, so on a friday night, i’m home making sure all my mp3s are associated to an album. there is something truly fucking depressing about that.

goooooooood morning world…

so it’s back to work this morning but i’m up early for other reasons, you don’t have much control on most of the factors in your life, however your technology should be one of them…

i definitely married the right woman, vic you are genius and a star. my love took down her imac and replaced the hard drive on her own last night (well i walked her through it over the phone)

…which brings me to the failings of technology…

it’s supposed to behave a certain way, there is no random behaviour (i believe that, really i do (tongue firmly in cheek)) we did everything correctly now it’s back to the drawing board on this cause after 2 hours and a drive replacement… nada, zip, zero, hard drive is not showing up when the machine boots and i know it works, well it was working when it left trinidad two days ago.

however fear not, our intrepid heroes will prevail.

in other news, i’m a constant seeker of information and on this quest for knowledge i came across this lovely tidbit…

day 12

April 19, 2003 — Leave a comment

i forgot, passover greetings to anyone who is celebrating.

yesterday was a truly enjoyable. it’s obvious i must be antisocial, i spent all day at home mostly alone, reading, napping, watching mindless television.

it was great. i realised how much i missed being home during the day. sigh.

i did however find something to bitch about yesterday and it continues into this morning…

TSTT, trinidad’s evil empire… these fuckers advertised all week that their help desk would be closed all weekend and then what happens?

the connection to any server outside trinidad goes down… no im, no web access, no email, nada. and you can’t call and inform them of the problem, because they’re closed.

fuckers.

i get up this morning, it’s back, it works for five minutes and then i get disconnected and we’re back to having no international net access…

there are some advantages to being a geek, back up accounts and all…

or maybe it’s a sign i’m spending too much time online?
