day 20 (talking about ordering in)

On April 27, 2003, in food, personal, by keifel

so i live with my dear sainted mother (her opinion, not mine), don’t get me wrong, i love her but oh lord i don’t like some of her ways. anyway my mother’s skill base does not include domestic goddess. accountant extraordinaire, wonderful organiser but not a domestic goddess.

what does this have to do with ordering you ask?

well my mother’s kitchen…

how do i put this… it’s a disaster area, it requires divine intervention…

i can and like to cook but the kitchen scares me, so i live on take in, but it gets really troubling when my number comes up in the computer and they know what i want to order and i have conversations with the delivery drivers.

that seems like a sign i should cut back, but what are my options really, even if i add up all the money i spend on ordering food it’s still cheaper than having someone come in and remodel the kitchen and besides it would take my mother about a week to return it to it’s current state.

now that i’ve gotten that off my chest, it’s back to charmed and alias later.

yes, i’m still sitting in front of the tv, the joys of laptop computing.

ciao

a day late…

i would have posted last night after my wonderful day, but the server was down, apparently technical difficulties abound. everywhere.

so yesterday i went to see a client in the morning and he stiffed me, not completely but we’ll see how long he takes to pay off the balance on his account.

but that wasn’t the important part of the day i spent all afternoon and some of the night in the company of friends i went to k & l’s 3rd anniversary luncheon and beach lime. congrats guys. it was great, the food was good, the shit talk was good, the company was great and i hadn’t been to the beach so long. it was beautiful, the water was cold (ideal in this heat) and i sat and watched the sun set from the beach and lay there and watched the stars come out one by one. there is a beauty to starlight that we miss in our well lit homes. sigh. all in all it was rejuventating. i felt a sense that all was right in the world.

which brings us to today. i’m still on the high from yesterday, i’m hoping that it holds (if not i’ve got half a bottle of my good friend jack to keep my bouyant) i’m still fighting the cold and now i’m dealing with all the insects bites that i got last night. so i’ve spent most of the day, lazing about, watching mind numbing tv, i should be doing something productive, but you what, i don’t feel like.

tomorrow school reopens here meaning that getting to and from work is going to be that much more difficult, but tomorrow is another day, i’m off to watch disney channel’s kim possible, i’ll be back later if anything of interest comes up, otherwise see you tomorrow.

day 19 (hacking & coughing edition)

On April 26, 2003, in entertainment, by keifel

not the best way to wake up… i have a headache and my chest hurts from all this coughing and as much as i’d like to sit around and watch samauri jack and kids wb this morning i have to go see a client.

but my afternoon should be great, i’m going to the anniversary lunch of a gay couple i know and then we’re off to the beach. i haven’t been to the beach in a really long time, which is really sad for someone living on a tropical island, but thems the breaks really.

until later i bid you all a fond farewell

btw yesterday (friday), there were an amazing (revised final tally) 71 visitors, all i can say is wow, thank you for coming.

day 18 (filler)

On April 25, 2003, in techology, work, by keifel

so i get into work today after my day off yesterday and the presentation and the work that was perfect less than 48 hours prior, is now riddle with changes.

change is not a big problem for me but fucking random ass changes like

“i don’t like the type face” and “there is too much space”

is the kind of shit that drives me around the bend, have these people no concept of design. what makes it worse there is no constructive critism with suggestions, fucking morons.

like i said earlier, if it wasn’t for the fucking money…

and the money ain’t that good.

moving on…
i found this really cool app for os x (yes, i’m a mac owner) called clutter which finds the cd cover for tracks you’re listening to in itunes, so on a friday night, i’m home making sure all my mp3s are associated to an album. there is something truly fucking depressing about that.

day 18

On April 25, 2003, in links, techology, by keifel

goooooooood morning world…

so it’s back to work this morning but i’m up early for other reasons, you don’t have much control on most of the factors in your life, however your technology should be one of them…

i definitely married the right woman, vic you are genius and a star. my love took down her imac and replaced the hard drive on her own last night (well i walked her through it over the phone)

…which brings me to the failings of technology…

it’s supposed to behave a certain way, there is no random behaviour (i believe that, really i do (tongue firmly in cheek)) we did everything correctly now it’s back to the drawing board on this cause after 2 hours and a drive replacement… nada, zip, zero, hard drive is not showing up when the machine boots and i know it works, well it was working when it left trinidad two days ago.

however fear not, our intrepid heroes will prevail.

in other news, i’m a constant seeker of information and on this quest for knowledge i came across this lovely tidbit…

middle of the day tease

On April 25, 2003, in rants, work, by keifel

i came really close to quitting my job today, i haven’t been that pissed for a while, but the weight of my commitments outweighed the weight of my righteous indignation.

i’m calmer now, but i could really use a drink and a drinking buddy.

sigh. this life truly sucks (badly with teeth) right now.

ok, back to pretending to work, i’ll post more developments later.

addendum

On April 24, 2003, in links, religion, by keifel

oh my fucking god, i just finished reading something that scared the fuck out of me. sometimes fact is scarier than fiction i’m a big stephen king fan, but nothing he’s ever written has ever frightened me like this…

jesus plus nothing

read it and form your own opinion.

i’m a little to stunned to comment right now.

day 17

On April 24, 2003, in links, personal, by keifel

i took the day off work today.

woo hoo. i know i keep bitching about how much i hate my job, you would think i should just put up or shut up but part of the problem is i’ve burned, bombed (shock and awe type bombing) and destroyed quite a few bridges in my time in the advertising industry here. people are a little afraid to hire me.

it’s not that i don’t have the talent, it’s the ‘prima donna attitude’ i’m not a prima donna, perfectionist with a low tolerance level for shit – yes, prima donna – no. i do good work, i work hard, but advertising here is more about who you know and who you (insert male bonding ritual here) on the weekend, than anything to do with real talent. with very few exceptions, nothing in the print media stands out anymore, no one wants to take a chance on a fresh look.

that said, as crappy as the pay and personalities at the office, i think i did some of damn good work yesterday on this presentation, it’s good to be inspired.

in other news i have to thank my friends for continuing to supply me with some of the strangest and most entertaining things online.

here is but one example:
things my girlfriend and i have argued about

quite funny, british humour.

i’m off to save the world, or at least get breakfast, prepare for a meeting and go fix a mac and ponder how to stop this damn coughing..

day 16

On April 23, 2003, in love, lust, longing, by keifel

awake, alive, aware.

still fighting this goddamn flu and no it’s not SARS, the only reason i’m going to work today is that i have work to finish for a presentation and i always finish a project.

i have to admit i’ve done quite a lot of shit in my life, but the right things i do, stand out like a beacon. 🙂

i love you vic.
