your evening wrap up

On May 13, 2003, in links, personal, by keifel

i wasn’t around earlier because i was doing other stuff (no i haven’t gotten a life all of a sudden), it’s tuesday, and it’s may. therefore, the penultimate episodes of gilmore girls and smallville.

now that they are over, i can return to my other life online. i’m not going to be here for very long, vic isn’t online and i’m a worry wort.

so here is the news in brief:

for us here in the caribbean and east cost of the us (best viewed on thursday) – the total lunar eclipse

and then there is this tidbit – there are no WMD in iraq (all of those who knew that all those months ago – say ‘aye’)

and finally some entertainments from dan savage

there will be more tomorrow, but i’m tired and worried about my wife.
thank you and good night.

the rain, the rain, the rain

On May 13, 2003, in personal, by keifel

the rains have begun. you haven’t lived til you’ve stood and felt warm caribbean rain falling on your face.

it’s raining now and i can hear it beating on the galvanised sheets on the roof. it’s one of the most soothing sounds in the world, makes you want to be curled up in the arms of your honey and wasting the day away. a long time ago i wrote my first and only rain poem, i think in tribute of the first day of the rainy season, i’ll include it here. (if i can just find the damn thing…)

ok, after some searching i can’t seem to find it on my computer, it’s probably on backed up on a cd somewhere. i’ll post it later.

back to the search for images.

in 5, 4, 3…

today i’m going to hit the 1000 visitor mark, as it stands i’m 11 visitors short at the writing of this post. (well eight, the bots that show up when i update, so i should not count actual 1000, but minus the bot visits and then count that as my actually total?)

well, if i can figure out who is my 1000th(ish) visitor, i figure out something nice to do for you.

in my care package from vic i got my shaver, so i got up early and took a shave, not the smoothest in the world, but i’m less bushy. i’m supposed to clean up to go to work today, i may be required to attend a presentation, (i don’t want to go *whine*) there are a couple reasons i dislike presentations

1. they’re boring
2. it’s mostly bullshit
3. i could be doing real work

time for me to go find a compromise in my wardrobe which brings me to

4. i have to clean up

generally i go to work in a tshirt, jeans and a pair of old nike slipper (soccer slip-ons for those of you not familiar with the vocab), today, i’m going to have to wear, a shirt (ironed), slacks (also ironed) and shoes (i loathe shoes). i also hate ironing, i only do it for my daugher, well because she is the fruit of my loins.

ok, it’s raining, so i have an excuse to wear enclosed footwear.

until later i bid you a fond adieu

i finished watching secretary. this movie is so amazing on so many levels. i’m in love with this movie, let’s not even begin to talk about how much i love the theme. i’m also very thrilled because i got a care package from victoria today. i haven’t done anything else all evening, i’m just checking out the newssites trying to catch up on the days events

here are a few of the highlights:

the smoking gun tv (your favourite legal news website, goes to the small screen, hosted by the hilarious mo rocca)

operation strangelove –  raise money for groups still working hard for peace, justice and relief in Iraq.

and justice for all – judge awards $108,000 in attorney fees in car-trouble lawsuit (trust me there is a point to this)

or maybe there isn’t justice for all read and be amazed at the powers and policies of goverment gone wild.

thank you and good night.

oh. my. god.

i don’t think i should be watching secretary at work.

i am 50 minutes into the movie and i have just witnessed the single most erotic thing i have ever come across in film. the scene is both visually and aurally stimulating. i’m going to have to watch the rest of this at home, i don’t think i can continue watching and function properly in the office.

this is definitely a must own. and shared.

going to work, i need the distraction

or a midmorning tidbit.

my boss (at the same job that i just dislike intensely now. what a difference two weeks of inspired work can make) is going away for three days on a shoot at the end of the week, she had a meeting this morning where she left myself and the head of the research unit responsible for all work leaving the office during her abscence. not that the responsibility is a problem, the head of the research unit has already handed in her resignation, so effectively if anything gets fucked up, i’ll be left holding the bag.

thus far, i’ve had nothing to do for the day, other than meet and get handover notes for laters this week. so i’ve been watching secretary, which only 30 minutes has me gripped. this movie is amazing and entirely inappropriate for me to be watching at work.

i’m supposed to have more meetings this afternoon to come up with ideas for a campaign rollout by friday, actually 3 campaigns. joy. actually i’m looking forward to the work, these people have such a ugly sense of design, it’s like pulling teeth to get them out of the rut they are in.

time to get some grub, i’ll be back later.

your morning news brief

On May 12, 2003, in links, by keifel

some early morning tidbits from metafilter to get your day started.

for the literary minded there is unpublished coda to harper lee’s to kill a mocking bird( a little strange but worth a read)

the startlingly similar right wing policies of tony blair (now we know where the rest of what’s his face’s brain went) with ‘religious groups being given a free reign on bigotry’

and a surreal news story about 12 iraqi sailors

and now your moment of zen from pointlesswasteoftime.com – 50 reasons to reject the matrix

have a great day, i’ll be back later.

not so much surreal as entertaining

On May 11, 2003, in personal, by keifel

so i cooked to today for mother’s day, had the whole sit down sunday lunch, my grandmother, my mother, my younger daughter, my ex wife, her younger daughter and her boyfriend.

maybe i should explain this now, my exwife, pig, is one of my best friends in the world. she has two children – i (our child) and n (her and a guy she planned to marry [another long tale, which i can’t get into now]) her current boyfriend, j, is the brother of the person (ndelamiko) that help vic and i arrange our wedding in barbados. are you with me so far? ain’t life funny

that’s how my life is. but lunch was great and afterwards j and i sat on the porch and talked, comics, movies, tv. he’s a pretty cool dude and at the end of the day i’m glad to see pig happy. i’m also a little envious, that she gets to spend time with her special someone. i’ll get over it eventually.

lunch on the whole was a big hit, it’s inspired me, i want to throw dinner parties and have people over talking all manner of shit on manner of subjects over good food. if i can just figure out where i’m going to do it. lol.

the matrix opens in 5 days, i’m trying to see how many people i can convince to duck work and come with me on thursday to the cinema, i did it the last time, but i went on my own, i think it would be so much more fun to go with friends.

anyway i’m off to watch secreatary and figure out why the apple dvd player refuses to work under 10.2.6 (aint technology grand)
