i swear to god

October 28, 2003 — Leave a comment

that aohell and microsloth are conspiring with the spammers.

i got an aohell account three years ago when i started travelling. i needed something that i could use to dialup anywhere, it`s a full account, so i added my mother and my daughters to the account.

i do web support for my clients, i had a tech column for a while, so i know the rules about spam and how it works. my mother and daughter`s email addresses are only know to me, it`s not online, i don`t cc people and the names aren`t easily reproducable.

then why for the fucking love of god are there 30 or 40 messages in each account. i don`t get it. i have a yahoo account that i use for signing up for crap online and that filters out most of the shit.

the other account i use to sign up for stuff online gets less spam. so i have to believe aohell is in cohorts with the spammers. let`s not even talk about msn, i signed up for an account, i didn`t accept any of the news letters, nothing. within two days, there`s spam showing up in the account. i have other hotmail accounts that predate the microsloth acquisition, once in a blue moon, the odd email shows up.

but the new accounts, a constant deluge of fucking junk.

i don`t need my penis any bigger, i don`t need breasts, bigger or otherwise. i`m not losing my hair and i don`t have uncontrolled credit card debt.

i just needed to get that off my chest. there are a lot of things that are irritating me right now, this is just the most accessible. i can focus on it and i can find a logical solution to it. everything else is so out of my hands and so out of control, there`s just no point fighting anymore.

full on geek mode

October 9, 2003 — Leave a comment

so for fun yesterday i completely wiped the drive with my OS and apps [in preperation for Panther [8pm, Oct 23] and i`m the process of reinstalling everything. i kept my mail databases and a couple other specific prefs, but otherwise this is a fresh start.

it`s amazing how much shit i`ve accumulated. obviously all the shit that i haven`t been collecting in the physical world is all here in the virtual world. it feels good to do some house cleaning.

in other news i`m debating taking on the atkins diet at least to get my weight down to a region where the thought of exercise of some sort doesn`t send my heart into palpitations.

coinciding with this decision is word out of jamaica. yes folk, i have a face to interview later this month. i`ll keep you posted and things develop.

VIRGO:If you want to place yourself in alignment with the current cosmic trends, you will seek out more than the usual amount and quality of your favorite physical sensations. My advice is to compose a list of your top five, then write out a proposed plan for getting those needs met and met and met. For instance, if you normally have a massage every once in a while, arrange to have at least two in the coming week, and make sure you enlist the services of the very best masseuse or masseur you know. Use the same approach to sex, food, sleep, aromas, beautiful sights, and any other experience that thrills your body.

i spent most of today trying to get my machine to boot. yes this is a geek post, so back out now if you don`t want hear about my adventures on my mac with os x.

i`ve been running os x since it came out, i`m an early adopter, always have been, you`ve got beta software, i`m the man to give it a whirl. i started with the apple sanctioned public beta, which i loathed and despised. then when i came back from florida i installed the first release on an imac dv and i fell in love, i`ve been using it ever since.

sometime after i came back i invested in the powerbook pismo [the last of the brown/bronze/whatever colour that was powerbooks] i installed 10.1, which was out and the time and i`ve been updating ever since.

the pismo died, well the power controller board died, so i got a new machine and i swapped drives and upgraded to 10.2.x whatever was new at the time.

so today after many upgrades including one that i can`t mention or i may just have to kill you, my os died. that`s what you get for running beta software, i pulled out all the stops, tried a few of the old tricks but in the end i decided a clean fresh start was in order.

so here i am, all formatted and clean installed running beta software, restored all my other shit from backup. woo hoo. there was no point in this other than celebrating my geekdom.

thank you and good night

sometime mid-afternoon i realised the internet connection was dropping. so like the good techno weenie that i am i called to inquire.

“oh nothing`s wrong”

“are you sure?”

“positive. have you cleared your cache?”

“yes and i`m pinging servers and none of them are responding”

“well it must be your connection.”

“oh really? well, l`ll reconnect.”

hung up the phone, reconnected, same problem, intermittent connection failure. struggled with it for the rest of the afternoon. called again just before i left…

“oh, we`re having network problems”

well of course you fucking morons, i told you that two hours ago. i really try not to be rude to tech support people but i`ve done tech support, i probably know more about their job than most of those phone jockeys, but at TSTT [hell yes, i`m calling fucking names] these fucking nimrods believe they are always right so when i call i always have to deal with the same fucking condescending tone. i hate that.

i`m using another account with another isp to connect but the problem seems nationwide.

an evening of geekdom

August 28, 2003 — Leave a comment

i spent the early part of this evening geeking out. as of this moment i no longer need to boot into classic mode. for you non-mac folk [poor, poor souls] every app that i need to use on a daily basis is now os x native. woo hoo.

after i geeked out, i went to shoot pool and although i didn`t redeem myself from my birthday trouncing, i did manage to eeek a two game advantage out.

tomorrow is my interview. although it appears we might have won the client, i`m not sure if i want to continue working there. i feel too good tonight to dwell on them. i`m going to talk to my wife.

adieu. have a good night.

cool toys

July 4, 2003 — Leave a comment

a friend of mine, sent me this very cool toy/link, it’s called

audioscrobbler:

“In a nutshell,  Audioscrobbler endeavours to be your personal music advisor. It grows to know  what music you like by monitoring what songs you play on your computer. From  this information you can discover other users that share some or all of your  taste in music. You can also view data showing what your most-played artists  are, and find out who likes a particular artist the most.   Audioscrobbler makes it easy to find people with similar musical tastes, and allows you to browse their profiles. Automatic suggestion generation is currently under development.”

i’ve signed up and i’m going to post my stats page in the links section here.

and that’s about it. hollywood homicide is boring me a bit, so i’m getting sidetracked.

i’m reorganising the post of the first 6 days, which i’d posted on a blog, here in chronological order.
i feel somewhat like winston, although i’m not revising history, the js ability to make the post appear to have been on a specific date is really orwellian.

just wanted to say that, and plug my early blog enteries.

adieu.

i haven’t done much all evening other than geek with my fellow mac heads about the new machines and trying out what new software is available. ichat a/v and safari are amazing. ichat is a beta and works perfectly out the gate. the new hardware is nice, but i’m not big on desktops anymore, i’m waiting to see what the new laptop offerings are. although i don’t see a new machine, anywhere in my near future. i should be working i have some web development to finish, but i’ve been invited to go the movies, so when i get home i’ll get work.

i really don’t feel like doing anything at the moment. i’m hoping by the time i get back from seeing finding nemo i’ll be prepared to finish this website.

vic is a chapter shy of finishing her copy of hp, i’m enjoy it vicariously. if i don’t get the copies from my friend who is travelling this weekend, i wont get to read it til vic leaves (as if i’m going to be interested in anything hp is doing when i’m seeing my wife for the first time in almost 10 months)

i’m going to call and see if the movies are still on, either way, i’ll be back later.
