Archives For June 2003

i have gotten a chance to shit sideways all afternoon, my boss has been on me like a tick about the campaign in the office, meaning i haven’t gotten any pages done. i’m trying to get out of here at 4:30 on the dot to make my other meeting then head down to the guardian to at least drop of the first set of pages.

i really hope and get a whole night’s sleep tonight. back to the grind. ciao.

when you’re so tired you’re almost exuberant, because you’re just running on sheer adrenaline? that’s where i am now. but i know how exhausted i am, i left the page plan for the second set of pages, which in terms of sheet stupidity, is monumental.
what does this mean exactly? it means i haven’t been able to do jack shit about it all morning, so i’m heading home as soon as i’m assured that the first set of pages is safely emailed and then work balls to the wall on that and finishing up a campaign that needs to be proofed this afternoon to go out for prints tomorrow. all of this before my 3:30 meeting with a new client to win a contract to service their machines. i can only hope the rush holds.

ok, the file is sent, i’m off to save the world.

it’s 8am, i’ve had a total of 7 hours sleep over the last two day, today is going to be really pleasant at work. i can tell.

i’ve finished one of the supplements, i was starting to make stupid mistakes on the other when i called it a night. and with it due for midday today, i’m going to have to do some serious multi-tasking in the office today. this is all going to be worth it.

23 days. i can sleep sometime before vic gets here. although when we’re together, sleep seems like the last thing on our minds and we don’t miss it either.

got to get going. i’ll be back when i’m done.

whatchadune?

i’m getting ready to build 28 pages for 2 newspaper supplements for tomorrow. i’m going to be up for a while. i figure if i get going now, i can get a second wind around midnight. i’ve got 8 hours of pop music cued up. this is going to be such fun.

in the mean time i’m going to post a bunch of links and although i was going save this for friday but you only live once, i’m sure i’ll find another five for friday. thank you eternalfool:

1. You have to engage in a dirty threesome with one celebrity of the same sex and one of the opposite sex. Choose your ideal peeps.
ewan mcgregor and angela bassett

2. What celebrity has popped up most frequently in your masturbation fantasies, past or present?
honestly none. i had to think about my first answer a really long time.

3. Would you fuck comedian Sarah Silverman?
yep

4. How about Jon Stewart?
oh hell yes

5. If you fucked a major celebrity (one night, no strings attached) and the Enquirer offered you $1,000,000 to supply some details of the tryst, would you do it
nope. not built that way.

whew, got that out of the way, now some news and entertainments:

this history of organised crime in nyc (really cool link for you crime buffs and vic if they ever do a city about ny), it’s really well designed too (i’m trolling for ideas for the site that i’m supposed to be working on…)

long bets is “an arena for competitve, accountable predictions” ie giving you an opportunity to put yout money where you mouth is.

an interesting catch-22 about google and it’s addition to our lexicon.

and it’s tuesday, so you know that means new dan savage at the village voice

moving quickly along, it’s almost an hour since i started this meaning i haven’t started work yet…

z list star (and i use the word star losely) blog (ok he uses a mac, running at least 10.2.5 and he’s using ichat a/v, so that will move him up the list to ‘j’ or something)

a useful roundup of links about the supreme court decision on library internet filtering

and we’re walking, and we’re walking, til we get to our final exhibit, your moment of zen

ok, all my text is here, no more posts til i’m done at least the first 8 pages. ciao.

counting down

i made the first offical step to vic’s visit, i submitted my leave form, my boss is trying to ignore me but i’ll quit if she doesn’t give me the time off. i doubt it will come to that. things seem to be coming together for the visit, there are two things that haven’t been confirmed, i don’t want to say anything yet for fear of jinxing it.

it’s started raining here and i’m dressed for dry weather, i really wasn’t thinking when i was getting dressed for work, i’d love to skip through the puddles on my way home, but the last thing i want to do is get sick now. no rain doesn’t get you sick but the germs that are likely to be in the puddle might well do the job.

i have all this work to do and i’m waiting for that one spark to ignite, it could also be the fact that i’m hungry, i budgeted for getting paid this afternoon, all major indicators are pointing to thursday, so i have to figure out how i’m going to manage til then.

vic sent me this link from alternet (much as we’d like to think differently race will factor in our relationship)

on a lighter note (unless you were a former employee) an album of failed dot-coms farewell pages

and nerve has started their 6th anniversary special issue, up today is their 10 best personal essays (the link is on the front page, do you want me to do everything for you?)

time for me to get back to work. ciao.

one more thing…

i owe, i owe, it’s off to work i go, i owe, i owe.

well i should know better having gone to bed close to 3am, now i’m just trying to pull myself together and get started.

i’d really like nothing better than to crawl into bed and work from home today, but that’s not going to happen, so i’m taking a moment to centre myself, read the news, check out the blogs, focus on that magnificent dream i had last night, mmmmmmmm.

10. Yes or no: have you ever met, or at least talked on the phone with, another blogger? If not, would you want to? Why or why not?
actually went to see matrix reloaded with 3 other js members (but we’ve know each other in person before, does that count?)

ok, now i’m officially late for work, i should get going.

really i should i got back from the movie about 30 minutes ago, i’ve got work in the morning, but my 8 – 4:30 ain’t paying for this trip (vic is here in 24 days), i need to make sure we’re both covered for the week off work, food, accomodation, transport… they usual stuff, so here i am slaving away on the website. well not actually slaving, doing thumbnails til i find something i really like and then i get to work.

i saw finding nemo and bruce almighty tonight, liked bruce, loved, loved, loved, finding nemo, it was funny and touching and the geek in me was just like, whoa. it’s nice to go with friends, but it just make think about all the little things i miss doing with vic, i love going to the movies, we’ve seen one movie together, that’s just so not right. i miss her so much. god, if start climbing down this hole i wont get anything done tonight.

i’m off to finish the thumbnails and so i can present a draft to the client in the morning. adieu.

i haven’t done much all evening other than geek with my fellow mac heads about the new machines and trying out what new software is available. ichat a/v and safari are amazing. ichat is a beta and works perfectly out the gate. the new hardware is nice, but i’m not big on desktops anymore, i’m waiting to see what the new laptop offerings are. although i don’t see a new machine, anywhere in my near future. i should be working i have some web development to finish, but i’ve been invited to go the movies, so when i get home i’ll get work.

i really don’t feel like doing anything at the moment. i’m hoping by the time i get back from seeing finding nemo i’ll be prepared to finish this website.

vic is a chapter shy of finishing her copy of hp, i’m enjoy it vicariously. if i don’t get the copies from my friend who is travelling this weekend, i wont get to read it til vic leaves (as if i’m going to be interested in anything hp is doing when i’m seeing my wife for the first time in almost 10 months)

i’m going to call and see if the movies are still on, either way, i’ll be back later.
