What can you do for your country

A year ago I started a little project as my way to protest the current administration’s inability to tell the truth about anything. I began posting an “alternative fact” every day with the intention to continue for the duration and I’m not stopping now. At some point it became clear that my tiny passive-aggressive posts weren’t making a difference, so in December last year I decided to attempt to make a difference.

I’ve know what being disenfranchised feels like and even though I have the ability to vote the current system feels remarkably like the people in power at every level give no fucks about their constituents, I’m hoping to change that. I’m not a perfect candidate but I feel like I can address the positions I feel strongly on in a coherent manner.

So, I am running for Tennessee House District 89. It’s not going to be easy but I feel a moral compulsion to attempt to defend my adopted homeland.

In terms of years, sixteen doesn’t seem like much. However when you’re sixteen you think you know everything in world and merely want a chance to go out and show what you can do. Sixteen years of marriage is a lot different, it’s being older and wiser, it means you realize you don’t know everything and it takes compromise and understanding and accepting things will not always be perfect or right. Also conversations, lots of conversations.

Every year marks the longest I’ve been in a romantic relationship in my life and I think back to what I wrote when I was moving here

vic and i are not living in a fairy tale and we know that. things are not going to be peachy and perfect all the time.

Perfect is not a word I would use to describe our journey – fun and interesting and amazing and frightening and exhilarating and charming are much better words to mark our years together. Thank you Victoria for sharing it with me and looking forward to adding more descriptive adjectives along the way.
